ABOUT
Jennifer Ashawasegai is the host and producer of Bamoseda. Jennifer is also a citizen of the Anishinabek Nation and member of Henvey Inlet First Nation. She is no stranger to radio, and has been in the business for about eight years working in small market radio stations in Ontario and Kansas, USA. Jennifer is also a freelance journalist, and has been published in Indigenous newspapers throughout North America.
In 2008, while in radio, Jennifer received the Debwewin Citation from the Anishinabek Nation for telling fair and balanced stories from the Aboriginal community in mainstream media. The following year, while with Moose FM, Ashawasegai was a finalist for a Canadian Association of Broadcasting Gold Ribbon Award.
Bamoseda was actually conceived during her work with Haliburton Broadcasting Group, and aired for a couple of years on five of it’s stations. Ashawasegai wanted to reach a wider audience with Bamoseda because she believes Aboriginal news should be integrated into mainstream to help people learn and understand Aboriginal specific issues. Ashawasegai is very proud the program will be carried by Rogers Radio.
